I sometimes wish blogging was the way it use to be. Now everyone is so worried about how many people read their blog, enticing people with giveaways or a feature spot.. when it didn't use to be that way ( and I don't have a problem with giveaways...but be sincere!). Don't get me wrong, I'm excited when I see how many new visitors I have, but that isn't my sole purpose for blogging. There are like, blog cliques! lol. People leave comments on other blogs, that seem so desperate for people to read their blog: You really should read my blog...you really should...it's cool...read my blog...have you read my blog? And I sometimes want to say- just write! If people read..great, if not...then it's no big deal.
I'm all for networking with other bloggers- I try to network. I like reading about other people and what they love to do, and what's going on in their life. I've made some great friends that way...but I don't make a big deal out of me following someone's blog, and them not following back. I may not have anything in common with a Mormon stay at home mom from Utah, but that doesn't mean I don't find her life interesting....she may find me crass or my language ungodly ( I am, and my language isn't as bad in my blog as it is in real life) so she may not be interested in reading about me! But, I have no problem with that.
I guess I'm just writing this post to say..........Just blog, and people will follow.

ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm in some sort of constant ranting loop along these exact lines. I started doing this whole writing and posting it online thing in 1997, so I remember when Geocities and Angelfire and Tripod were your only free options (and I was so cool with my members.aol.com url) and if you wanted to comment on something someone wrote, you had to email them.
The thing that gets me these days is just how commercial it's all gotten... Everyone has an Etsy shop or a self-published book or an online course or makes blog headers or whatever... and everyone's afraid to write anything that strays from the "niche" that they picked for themselves and I dunno... if I have to see one more post about what someone wore today, I'm going to set someone's hair on fire.

Deletemembers.aol.com was my FUCKING DOMAIN! lol. I thought I was SO bad ass. Especially in chat rooms, when people would ask me ' How did you do all that on your page?' LOL!
But yeah, I miss just reading about people's everyday lives. Everything else gets a little....boring after a period of time.
LOL @ setting someone's hair on fire. Some of the "fashion blogs" I actually enjoy but I just filter then in my reader and get to them after I read the few personal blogs that I have subscribed to.
DeleteThe old blogging days.. let's see, I think I had a Homestead account; I signed up for the little cute domain names that weren't really domains (dalaydee.issweet.nu;) and I've had pages at envy.nu. I'm not sure if you remember those or not.
ReplyDeleteBut, I too, miss those days. It was fun.. interesting.. personal and people didn't care too much about comments. Personally, I write to share whatever I'm feeling... and maybe it'll inspire someone or make someone's day better, but either way, I just write.
AHHH yes, the .NU webpages. LOL...I remember those! I hated homestead, and my aunt wouldn't pay for me to have my own domain..so I always had a subdomain. Specifically .cjb.net lol.
